Your Smile Will Look & Feel Fantastic With General Dental Care

Your mouth is a window to the rest of your body. When it isn’t in top shape, your overall health is at risk too. That’s why we encourage our patients to visit us every six months for a dental cleaning and exam. We will not only thoroughly clean your teeth, but we’ll examine your mouth for issues such as gum disease, cavities, and oral cancer.

Our general dental services include:

  • Preventive Care – We can apply dental sealants to the chewing surfaces of your teeth to prevent cavities. We also use fluoride to give your teeth an extra means of defense against harmful bacteria.
  • Gum Disease Treatment – If you have an infection in your gums, we’ll perform a deep cleaning procedure called scaling and root planing to restore your gum health.

We can also discuss chronic issues you may be experiencing, such as bad breath or dry mouth. We’ll recommend treatments that provide relief and address any underlying issues that need our attention.

If you need general dentistry in Waukegan, call 847-595-5805 (new patients) or 847-429-3547 (existing patients) for an appointment. You can also request an appointment online. We’d love to introduce you to our comfort dog, April! She’ll help keep you calm during your visit.

Common Questions about General Dentistry

What is general dentistry?

Daily oral hygiene is essential to keeping your mouth clean and healthy. But as important as brushing and flossing are, they aren’t enough on their own to protect your teeth and gums. General dentistry covers a wide range of treatments designed to help you prevent and detect dental problems so you can keep your oral health on track.

Can I prevent cavities?

Brushing with a toothpaste that contains fluoride at least two times a day is essential in preventing cavities, as is daily flossing. Limiting the amount of sugary or highly acidic foods in your diet is also helpful. If you’re unable to brush after meals, rinsing out your mouth with water is a good way to help wash away the food debris and bacteria that cause cavities. Ask your dental team about fluoride and sealants, two treatments that can make your teeth less cavity-prone.

Who needs dental sealants?

A dental sealant is an ultra-thin coating applied to the chewing surfaces of your back teeth. Those surfaces have grooves where bacteria can collect and cause cavities. Sealants create a barrier to keep the bacteria out. Once applied, sealants lessen the risk of decay by about 80 percent. We often suggest applying when the first molars appear, around age 6, then again at around age 12 when second molars come through. Sealants typically provide protection for several years. During exams your dentist will check to ensure they are still in place.
